The Doutor Bento da Cruz School Group, in Montalegre, warned the educational community that today there will be no teaching activities in the schools of the group and the Municipal Civil Protection also said that school transport will not take place.
Thus, due to the accumulated snow on most roads in the municipality since the end of the afternoon on Tuesday and the formation of ice due to the low temperatures, transport to the Doutor Bento da Cruz secondary school, the secondary school of the Baixo Barroso and Basic Schools of Montalegre, Salto, and Cabril, as well as for the Cooperative of Education, Rehabilitation, Training and Inclusion (CACI) Montalegre has been suspended.
“The evolution of the state of the weather is being permanently monitored, and the fire brigades of the municipality (Montalegre and Salto), as well as the municipal teams, are on the ground to, as quickly as possible, restore the safety conditions for the normal circulation on the roads, ensuring the mobility of all”, said, in a statement, the Municipal Civil Protection of Montalegre.
During the night there were preventive teams in the municipality and the operations of cleaning the roads and adding salt were reinforced from 06:30.
“It continued to snow overnight. Right now we have everything on the street cleaning the main arteries, and we have some conditioned roads”, said the interim commander of Montalegre, Miguel Monteiro.
The neighbouring municipality of Boticas had already
announced last night that school transport would not take place this morning
for the Gomes Monteiro School Grouping, also due to snow and ice.
Also in a statement, the Municipal Civil Protection of
Boticas said it was “permanently monitoring the evolution of adverse weather
conditions, seeking as quickly as possible to restore normal circulation on the
roads and guarantee the safety and mobility of its citizens”.
According to the GNR of Vila Real, this morning the
Municipal Road 1.334 through Lamas de Olo, Serra do Alvão (Vila Real – Mondim
de Basto), was cut, while the National Road (EN) 304 was reopened, but the
Guard advises “a lot of caution” due to ice on this road that connects Vila
Real to Mondim de Basto.
The Main Route 4 (IP4) was also reopened to traffic at 06:00, after having been closed all morning in the area of Alto de Espinho, Serra do Marão.
