"The Swedish community has been very present in AHSA's day-to-day activities, and contributes permanently so that we can give better social responses to those who seek us out", says Carlos Santos, president of AHSA - the "Associação Humanitária de Solidariedade Albufeira".
"They've been with us for the last ten years - when they began contributing to our work in a wide variety of areas", Carlos Santos explains.
The main focus is on the children, and it's for them that many of these contributions are directed. School materials, clothes and shoes, glasses, medicines and medical consultations are all bought with the contribution of this community - at an estimated monthly cost of between 900 and 1000 euros.
Besides the direct contribution, trips back to Albufeira, after family holidays in Sweden, are always synonymous with new gifts, especially for the younger ones, whether they're clothes or toys that can still be used.
To strengthen ties with this community and make their work known, AHSA organised a convivial lunch last Saturday , in the refectory of the Rossio Day Centre, one of the social equipment’s managed by this institution.
In addition to the management of this equipment, AHSA also develops various actions to support families, such as the allocation of food baskets, clothes, toys and school supplies.
Noushin Nadjafi, one of the representatives of this community said "the relationship we have with AHSA allows us to better understand the problems of the community where we live and how we can contribute.”
