Kamaal Williams, who “brings to the stage a fusing of jazz, funk and other genres,” performs on July 16th, at the Parque Basílio Teles bandstand, which will serve as the stage for Matosinhos em Jazz every weekend of July, according to a statement shared by the organisers.

“The British musician and producer brings the albums ‘Wu Hen’ (2020) and ‘The Return’ (2018), as well as a unique performance that takes many influences from jazz and funk, connecting them live to rhythms of hip-hop, R&B, afrobeat, dubstep and broken beat,” the statement reads.

In theme with the festival, over the month of July there’ll be an exhibition at Parque Basílio Teles reinterpreting the “iconic jazz album covers” by Portuguese artists, whose names “will be announced soon.”

Matosinhos em Jazz, an initiative by the Matosinhos council, has free entry and the shows always begin at 6pm.

Last year the festival returned after a two year interregnum due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with acts from the likes of Alfa Mist, Ashley Henry and Rebecca Martin, among others.
