In an opinion released on Portugal’s Stability Program and on the National Reform Programme, the European Commission urges the country to “cease the energy support measures in force by the end of 2023, using the corresponding savings to reduce the public deficit”.
In a situation of a possible energy crisis next winter, the Community Executive asks that these new support measures for further increases in energy prices be “directed towards the protection of vulnerable families and companies, which are accessible from a budgetary point of view and which preserve energy saving incentives“.
The recommendation comes after, last week, the Government said it would follow “the general guidance” given to European Union (EU) countries regarding the energy crisis, but admitted to ending public support in 2024, if not justified, as envisaged by the European Commission.
First the EU causes the energy crisis, by boycotting Russia and getting involved with the Ukraine in the war and then getting cheap energy cut from Russia, switching off coal plants and trying to rely on wind and solar (Which you cannot rely on!)! Very clever move of the EU and now Portugal must suffer due to this? How lame is that and how they think the EU population are all stupid! That is why going off grid is the answer to those that can, otherwise, we all end up in dire poverty!

NN is correct, however, may I point out that most are indeed this stupid. They will believe anything television tells them. Nothing has become more obvious in the last years, than how easily brainwashed and manipulated most people are.
Imagine purposely destroying your own capabilities to feed and warm your own tax paying, law abiding citizens, and then blaming Russia for it.
The EU is greedy, corrupt, destructive and dangerous, and unfortunately the Portuguese government (and media) are a circus poodle who will do anything they are told, for a cheap treat.
This country could be a new Switzerland or Singapore, but the Portuguese mindset is that of a cowardly follower, and not of a courageous leader.

NN Anything which accelerates us towards renewables is good news. Otherwise, much greater tragedies await the world.

This is what happens when you are no longer a sovereign country
By John Broadbent from UK on 26 May 2023, 09:23
Mr Broadbent, the EU is urging and recommending, not instructing. Sovreignty remains with Portugal, as it did with UK before Brexit, and does with all the other EU countries.
By J Spedding from Beiras on 26 May 2023, 13:52
Mr Spedding, is that why Portugal is repeatedly being taken to the European Court by Brussels? Is that why EU laws are called Directives?
Sovereignty, my backside.
