The streaming platform is currently communicating the 33 percent increase in monthly fees to subscribers via email messages.
According to a report by ECO, from July 13, the monthly fee will cost €7.99 instead of the current €5.99. For subscribers with the lifetime promotion, the price will rise from the current €3.99 to €5.32, says the platform in response to user queries.
"We are increasing the monthly price in view of the higher costs of acquisitions, content creation and product development so that we can continue to invest in the content and high-quality products that we seek to provide to our customers", states the company in messages to subscribers.
Anyone who does not agree with the new prices can cancel their subscription until 13 July, says the company.
The fee increase comes two months after Warner Bros. Discovery announced the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ content into a new streaming service: Max. In Portugal and in the rest of Europe, the change should arrive in 2024.
In this new streaming system, subscribers will be able to continue to watch series like “Succession,” “The Last of Us” or “House of the Dragon” alongside content from Discovery, HGTV, Food Network, or TLC.
HBOMax, or Max as it's called now, is $14.99 here in the US, so you're getting a terrific deal even at 7.99 euros, which is about $9...although I'm sure everyone would prefer to stay at the 5.99 euros. Enjoy!
