The public petition, in print and online, was launched by the civic platform “Aeroporto Fora, Lisboa Melhora” and is based on the fact that Humberto Delgado Airport is located within the city.

“Lisbon Airport is the only major international airport that still operates within a European capital. This airport harasses more than 200,000 citizens of Lisbon with an unprecedented number of planes passing at low altitude”, states the petition.

According to Dr Isabel Colher, many of the people who live near Humberto Delgado Airport and the flight route “have to sleep with earplugs” and “suffer from anxiety”.

“Our platform is not against airports and planes. It's just against this airport because it's in the center of greater Lisbon, ”she said.
