According to the European statistical service, of the 20 most booked destinations through platforms such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group, or TripAdvisor, six were in Spain and France, five in Italy, two in Portugal – AML and Algarve – and, leading the list, one in Croatia, all for beach holidays, on Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
Between July and September 2022, AML and the Algarve recorded more than 3.5 million and 4.5 million overnight stays, respectively.
In 2022, a total of 547 million overnight stays were recorded in the European Union through the four aforementioned platforms (which have a data-sharing agreement with Eurostat), an increase of 50.4 percent compared to 2021 and 6.9 percent compared to 2019 (before the covid-19 pandemic).

Nobody tells the police or GNR (Generally No Response) to let the tourists run wild.
Summons can be given out for littering, peeing in the streets and chanting at the top of your lungs at 2am.
Portugal has endorsed bad behavior and it has just gotten worse.
Until this behavior is put in check, this is what you are going to get.
The Algarve is certainly attractive enough to get a better class of tourist.
