The number of passengers passing through Portuguese airports has increased, year-on-year, by 29% in the first half of this year, reaching 30 million, 12% above the results of 2019 (pre-pandemic), it was announced this Tuesday.

According to data released in a statement by Vinci, which owns ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, all airports (Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Funchal, Porto Santo, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Flores and Horta) managed by the group in Portugal recorded year-on-year growth rates of around 30% in the first half.

Lisbon Airport registered the highest year-on-year growth rate (31%) in the first six months of the year, receiving 15.9 million passengers, 8.7% more than in the same period of 2019. In turn, Porto airport received around 7.1 million passengers, 28% more than in the same period of 2022 and 15% more than in 2019.

Faro continued to occupy the 'top' three of the Portuguese airport, with the highest number of passengers received (around 4.2 million), with a growth of 21% compared to the same period in 2022 and 5.2% in 2019.

Azores airports received 1.3 million passengers, 28% more than in the first half of 2022 and 20% more than in 2019.

Isolating the second quarter, the number of passengers who passed through Portuguese airports increased, year-on-year, by 15%, reaching 18 million, and 9.9% above the results of 2019.

Of the various airports, Porto registered the highest year-on-year increase (16%), for a total of 4.2 million passengers and Lisbon welcomed a record 8.76 million passengers, which translates into a year-on-year increase of 15% and 4.8% compared to 2019 figures.

Madeira airports registered a year-on-year increase of 9.9% and compared to 2019 of 40% to 1.3 million passengers and those of the Azores a year-on-year increase of 22% and compared to 2019 of 21% to 829 thousand passengers. Traffic at all da Vinci airports rose 36.2% in the first half, compared to the same period in 2022, but declined by 9.1% compared to the same period in 2019, to 123.4 million passengers.
