This is a positive finding for the national market, reinforced by the fact that 26% responded that they do so at least twice a year, and an even more significant percentage, 65%, admit to doing so more frequently.

However, despite the Portuguese habit of vacationing in Portugal, 59% are considering travelling abroad for leisure this year. The remaining 41% do not know or have not considered travelling abroad, citing financial circumstances as the main reason.

Regarding the type of summer vacation, 63% of Portuguese people intend to spend their vacations in hotels or rented houses, while 35% opt for solutions that don't involve accommodation costs. However, only 9% report owning their own vacation home.

Regarding paid accommodation, the percentage of Portuguese people intending to spend their vacations in hotels has decreased, but the number of rented vacation homes has increased, the study indicates. Among those who choose hotels for their summer vacations, 35% prefer beach hotels, while 50% intend to choose design, spa, or luxury hotels.

Regarding regions, the Algarve continues to be the destination of choice for the Portuguese (34%), compared to the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which received only 4% of the total. The North and Central regions of the country are gaining momentum, ranking very close to the Alentejo in terms of preferences, with figures between 15% and 19%, respectively. As for the islands of Madeira and the Azores, only 11.5% of Portuguese people consider these destinations their preferred vacation destinations.
