The culture-rich nights happen every Friday between the 4th and 25th of August.

According to the councilwoman charged with matters of Culture, Regina Gouveia, the initiative is a way of dynamising the Covilhã Historic Centre, as well as remembering and discovering historical facts, guided by actress Joana Poejo, who leads the themed street performances.

“Summer in the Historical Centre shares historical knowledge and stories connected to local heritage, memories of the streets, nooks and crannies, of personalities and events,” Regina Gouveia told Lusa.

To the member of Covilhã’s municipal council, this is also a way to bring music to less probable and emblematic locations.

“This is an event that also presents new Portuguese music to unusual places, amplifying the artistic fruition of a very vast and diverse public that, weekly, walks our Historic Centre to discover and revisit,” Gouveia added.

Summer in the Historical Centre, promoted by the municipality, intends to “unify History, heritage and theatre to the best new local and national music,” the government explained in a press release.

The initiative’s goal is to “bring people to the street for great nights of culture in the heart of the city.”

Samuel Úria takes the stage on the 4th of August at 10:15pm next to the São João Garage, B Fachada performs on the 11th on Rua Almeida Eusébio, near the Covilhã Labour Court, Beatriz Pessoa presents herself on the 18th at the Municipal Auditorium, and Entre Portas play on the 25th at Largo Nossa Senhora do Rosário.

The acted visits start at 9:30pm, at the location of the concerts, and end at the same place at 10:15pm, when they give way to the live music.
