According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the yellow warning will be active from 12:00 today in Faro, Beja, Setúbal and Lisbon, extends on Saturday (from 12:00) to Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Santarém and Évora and, on Sunday, to Vila Real, Porto, Guarda, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.

The persistence of high temperatures will change the warning to orange (the second most serious) from 12:00 on Saturday in Lisbon and Setúbal and, on Sunday (12:00), in Beja and Évora, remaining active at least until 00:00 on Monday.

The Civil Protection warned on Thursday of the worsening weather conditions in the coming days, due to the forecast of an increase in temperature, keeping the country on yellow alert for the risk of rural fires.

Also because of the heat, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) recommended on Thursday that pilgrims participating in the World Youth Day (WYD), taking place in Lisbon, seek out cool environments, drink water, use sunscreen and opt for light meals due to the increase in temperatures expected from today.

For today, the IPMA predicts a rise in maximum temperatures, more significant in the Center and South regions.

As for temperatures, the minimum will vary between 10ºC (Bragança) and 21ºC (Faro) and the maximum between 24ºC (Aveiro) and 36ºC (Faro, Beja and Setúbal).
