In a statement, MAAC states that, comparing 2023 values with those of the last 10 years, “a decrease of 27% has been registered in wildfire occurrences and 70% less land has been scorched relative to the period’s average.”
“2023 so far has registered the 3rd lowest number of wildfires and the 4th lowest area of land burnt since 2013,” the message reads.
According to the ministry, since the approval of the Rural Fire Integrated Management System, we’ve witnessed a “lessening of wildfires in the Summer months that originated from the use of fire,” alongside a “significant reduction in wildfires of 500 to 1000 acres.”
According to data shared by the ministry, in 2017 the investment “in prevention hit around 20%, and 80% was hit in firefighting,” with currently “each of these axes counting with around 50%.”
“The total investment in the two axes more than doubled against 2017 levels (when 143 million euros were invested), with 2023 being the year with the largest investment ever (circa half a billion euros),” MAAC explained.
The Government intends, still within this year, to approve a legislative package for Rustic Property, supporting in reports and proposals presented by the Rustic Property Work Group.
The objective, according to the note, “is to answer the rural space management problems set in place by current systems of co-ownership, inheritance, namely the questions posed by recumbent, vague and undivided inheritances, and avoid the division below the minimum cultivation unit.”
