Mexico, Australia and Singapore are among the countries with the highest growth in the number of operations.
Between July 26th and 31st, “operations with foreign cards on the Multibanco Network increased by 18% compared to the same period (July 27th to August 1st, 2022)”, adds SIBS, in a statement. “This evolution contributed to an overall growth of 6% in the number of operations in the Multibanco Network, throughout the national territory”, according to a report by ECO.
Mexico was the country with the highest growth in operations, with Multibanco transactions soaring 147%, followed by Australia and Singapore (both with +142%) and New Zealand (+126%).
The company that manages the Multibanco network also indicates, in geographical terms, between the 26th and 31st of July, “there was a 57% increase in the number of visitor transactions in Santarém (district where the Sanctuary of Fátima is located), from 26% in Coimbra and 23% in Évora”.
“If we analyze only the countries where the last five editions of WYD took place (Panama, Poland, Brazil, Spain and Australia), we see that the average growth in the number of operations is 25%, that is seven percentage points more than the total of operations carried out with foreign cards in the period under analysis”.
