The city of Portimão was surprised, this Monday morning, by an earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale. According to Postal. This earthquake, which occurred around 5:30 am, joins a series of similar events that have been shaking several regions of Portugal over the last few hours.

Specialists from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) report that this earthquake did not cause significant personal or material damage.

The seismic sequence began with an earthquake of magnitude 2.4 on the Richter scale, near Montemor-o-Novo, in the district of Évora, at 22:16 on Sunday. Just eight minutes later, a new earthquake, this time with a magnitude of 2.9, was recorded in the same region.

Early this Monday, at approximately 1:44 am, an earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale was felt near Peniche, in the district of Leiria. The epicenter of this quake was located about 25 kilometers west of Peniche. Fortunately, as in previous cases, there was no major damage, neither personal nor material.
