After a tough 2.2 kilometre race from the Guinness brewery to the Custom House, the 60-year-old swimmer from Dublin's Half Moon Club was the first to cross the finish line.
Over the years, “I've finished everywhere in the top 10, but never first,” he stated.
The president of Half Moon, Mr. Dalton, claimed that this year is particularly remarkable.
“It means a lot to us all to have a Half Moon winner because the club is celebrating its 125th anniversary and is one of the oldest in the nation,” he continued.
Adam Lynch came in third and Louis Masterson placed second.
Roseanne Marshall of the Guinness Swimming Club won the women's event, with Gemma Farrelly coming in third and Eabha Ni Shiadhail coming in second.
It was the 103rd iteration of the race, and more over 500 swimmers competed.
