Portuguese struggling to heat homes

In 2022, Portugal registered the fourth highest rate in the European Union (17.5%) of people who were unable to properly heat their homes, with the European Union (EU) average standing at 9.3%, according to Eurostat.

The number of people struggling to pay for home heating increased by 2.4 percentage points in the EU compared to 2021.

Among Member States, Bulgaria (22.5%) recorded the highest percentage of people having difficulties heating their home, followed by Cyprus (19.2%), Greece (18.7%), Portugal and Lithuania (17.5% each), Spain (17.1%) and Romania (15.2%).

At the opposite extreme, with the lowest rates, are Finland (1.4%), Luxembourg (2.1%), Slovenia (2.6%), Austria (2.7%), the Czech Republic ( 2.9%), Sweden (3.3%) and Estonia (3.4%).

The Portuguese have no need to heat homes with the increasing temperatures felt on the last winters and almost no rain, what the Portuguese need is equipment to cool their homes.

Portugal must learn to build better houses. Construction processes in Portugal take a long time and are outdated. Today it is possible to build much faster and better insulated houses. This will save energy.

The coldest places I ever rented were airb&b's in November in Portugal. The older the building, the colder the temperature. It was warmer outside.

Do you hear that elderly Portuguese, who worked all your lives and paid all those taxes, which are now going to the Ukraine? Diogo your fellow Portuguese has decided you don't need to keep warm in the winter. Who cares if your have arthritis or other illnesses? And young Portuguese families with babies, hello? Your babied don't need warmth after their baths in winter months. Diogo has said so.
And this is why, ladies and gentlemen, this country is so backwards: with friends like these, who needs enemies?

Odd, not heating a home saves even more energy.
Also, Portugal is wet and cold (yet normally not freezing) in winter, which makes many houses very uncomfortable.

The solution to the problem is to heavily insulate all the houses, all the buildings, and homes, this will make homes cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.
