2.7 million units were produced in Portugal last year, out of a total of 14.7 million bicycles manufactured in the community block, according to a report by ECO.

Portugal was responsible for around 18% of the total production of bicycles in Europe. Among the largest producers is Romania, which manufactured 2.6 million units, followed by Italy (2.5 million), Germany (1.7 million) and Poland (1.0 million), according to the EU statistics office.

In 2022, the production of bicycles in the community space increased by 10% compared to the previous year. The production of 14.7 million units also represents an increase of 29% over a decade, from 2012 to 2022.

Despite this upward trend in Europe, in Portugal production sold, the indicator used in these statistics, decreased. This is because last year the country reported a production of 2.9 million units, which fell to 2.7 million this year. Data from last year indicated that there were around five dozen companies producing bicycles in the country, with exports reaching 800 million euros in 2022.
