The hydrological year in Portugal spanning 2022/23 has been officially recognised as the hottest on record, according to the Portuguese Met Office (IPMA).

The average maximum air temperature reached 22.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the normal by 2.1 degrees and marking the highest since 1931. Even the average minimum temperature rose by one degree, with most months recording values above the average, except for February.

Despite these temperatures, rain levels were categorised as normal for the period.
