According to Sapo News, the company Repsol has invested in an electrolyser with the capacity to generate 350 tons per year of renewable hydrogen for industrial use, mainly in the refinery, as a raw material for the manufacture of products with a lower carbon footprint.

Renewable hydrogen is also used in the logistics platform of the Abanto Zierbana Technological Park, located 1.5 kilometers from Bilbao, as a propellant for buses and heavy transport, resulting from the installation of the first hydroline (hydrogen source) in the Basque Country.

Repsol also said that Petronor will have two other electrolysers in the coming years, with 10 MW and 100 MW of capacity, and that it will install other electrolysers in the vicinity of its remaining industrial centers in the Iberian Peninsula, as a decarbonization lever.

Multienergética also highlights that the development of these electrolysers will allow the implementation of the necessary infrastructure for the use of hydrogen in industry, mobility, and in the gas and renewable electricity sectors, promoting European production associated with these sectors.

This is another step towards their decarbonisation plan, where they are aiming for 2050 to achieve zero carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
