The exercise, called “A Terra Treme” (www.aterratreme.pt), will take place at 11:14 today, and is organized annually by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), in collaboration with several public and private entities, and aims to educate the population to know how to act in the event of an earthquake.

With this initiative, ANEPC intends to make the population aware of what “to do before, during and after an earthquake, namely to know the preventive measures and self-protection behaviours to adopt”.

According to Civil Protection, the exercise involves “performing three simple gestures that can make a difference to those who perform them in the event of an earthquake”.

ANEPC indicates that the action takes place for one minute, in which participants, individually or collectively (families, schools, companies, public, private or associative institutions), are invited to perform the three self-protection gestures: Drop, Cover Hold On.

Although the initiative has national expression, ANEPC, in conjunction with the General Directorate of Education (DGE) and the General Directorate of School Establishments (DGEstE), promotes a main event at Escola Secundária Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes, in Olhão.
