With its headquarters located in San Diego, California, Qualcomm Technologies has been present in Cork since 2013. Currently, hundreds of people are employed by QT Technologies Ireland, a Cork-based company.
The business offers semiconductor technology to the mobile communications sector as well as other industries.
IDA Ireland is funding the Cork investment, which is expected to produce more than 150 new jobs over the next four years, most of which will be in highly skilled engineering positions. The business said that because of the expansion, research teams for software and hardware will share the Cork location.
Paul Kelleher, VP Engineering, QT Technologies Ireland Limited, stated, “We are very proud that this project means the highly skilled teams in Cork will be addressing market challenges by enabling industries like manufacturing, automotive, hyperscale computing, gaming, medical, and education.”
“QT Technologies Ireland is a very exciting place to work, given our uniqueness in Ireland in developing the broad set of skills and capabilities required to execute on advanced process technology nodes,” he stated.
“Since 2013, the Cork City location of QT Technologies Ireland has expanded steadily. Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, stated, "This internationally renowned company in its industry is currently creating and developing critical cutting-edge tech, in a regional location.”
“This latest investment increases the strategic functions managed by the leadership team at the Cork facility, significantly enhancing the Southwest of Ireland's established tech cluster,” he stated.
The expansion of QT Technologies Ireland at Penrose Dock, according to Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment Simon Coveney, is excellent news for Cork.
The new positions, according to the Minister, will present fantastic chances for the nation's talent pool to work for a globally recognised IT business like QT Technologies Ireland.
“Digital transformation is at the core of this project; it unites the hardware, software, and R&D teams of QT Technologies Ireland in Cork and enables the pursuit of novel and exciting new projects. This development emphasises even more Ireland's status as a global centre for the top tech businesses worldwide,” he continued.
