Planning approval for 1,800 units has already been granted for the Clongriffin property; if the further dwellings are approved, this will be the largest single State housing project in decades.

For €44 million, the property was purchased from the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA).

The lands, which go by the names Project Capital North and Barina, total 13.2 hectares, 11.1 hectares, and 2.1 hectares, respectively.

The location of Project Capital North already has planning approval for 1,823 residential units and a few commercial projects.

According to John Coleman, CEO of the LDA, “this is a significant strategic purchase by the LDA and a major development for the provision of State-owned affordable housing.”

These properties have the ability to eventually produce over 2,300 socially and reasonably priced houses. They are also in a prime location with excellent access. The LDA paid a little initial financial cost of around €19,000 for each home, which is negligible when compared to the total cost of delivery.”

The property, which is designated for housing, is situated in Dublin 13 adjacent to the Clongriffin train station.

Darragh O'Brien, Minister of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, welcomed the news of the acquisition.

“The land at Clongriffin is superbly located and it is exciting that this will be the largest State housing project in decades,” he stated.

“By buying this site, the LDA is realising the land’s potential and making sure it is used to deliver the right type of housing, community facilities and amenities.”
