Rotunda D. Dinis, Anvenida Papa Francisco and Rua Genral Norton de Matos (Centro) Saúde Gorjão Henriques are the main new locations in which the Municipality of Leiria will create the parking lots, in order to increase the supply of free spaces, along with plans for other smaller parking lots.

In accordance with the socialist mayor, around 600 spaces will be created, which will increase parking from the current 3,694 free parking spaces and 3,653 taxed spaces.

As all projects have yet to be completed, Luís Lopes explained there is yet to be any final budgets with approval.

“It is foreseen that the interventions will be completed and launched during the years of 2024 and 2025, given the different stages of execution of each project, and in some cases, there is still the necessity to obtain approval from some entities”, explained the councillor.

Luís Lopes highlighted the Leria City Council’s mobility strategy “is not just limited to parking, and all measures adopted must contribute to improving the quality of life of those who live, work, visit and study”.

“This requires commitments in the medium and long term, given that it will provoke a change in habits and customs, based on principles of education on the way we understand mobility and move daily”, he added.
