Data from the Mobility and Transport Institute show that 2023 will surpass 2008 since, between January and September of this year, there was a 10% increase in circulation on motorways. In other words, an average of 22,095 vehicles circulated daily on Portuguese highways during the first nine months.

The access roads to Lisbon and Porto are the busiest, with the IC19 and VCI being the most popular, respectively. On the other hand, the IC16, which connects Agualva-Cacém and Alcabideche (Lisbon district), recorded a drop in traffic, with a thousand fewer vehicles per day.
