According to the Brazilian newspaper Folha, the tourist visa for citizens of the USA, Canada and Australia will be able to be requested online, through the website brazil.vfsevisa.com, and will cost US$80.90, being valid for 10 years for American citizens, and for five years for Canadians and Australians.

The Brazilian newspaper highlights that the requirement for a tourist visa to visit Brazil had been suspended five years ago, during the term of President Jair Bolsonaro, who dropped the visa requirement to increase tourism between these countries and Brazil.

However, five years later and with a new president elected, Brazil once again demands that citizens of the USA, Canada and Australia have a tourist visa to visit the country, as this is a measure based on the principle of reciprocity and none of these countries no longer requires tourist visas for visits by Brazilian citizens.

“It is important to highlight that the Brazilian government renews its interest in negotiating, with the three nations, visa exemption agreements based on the principle of reciprocity and equality between States”, states the Brazilian government, in a note released by Folha.

The USA is the second largest source of tourists for Brazil, just behind neighbouring Argentina, which occupies the first position. Until October 2023, Brazil received 530,690 American tourists, which represented 11% of the total international tourists received by the country.
