The extension of the seasonal service reinforces United's operation in Portugal, which offers daily flights throughout the year from Lisbon to New York/Newark, seasonal services from Porto and Ponta Delgada, Azores to New York/Newark, in addition to a new seasonal non-stop flight, four times a week, between Faro and New York/Newark, from May 26, 2024.
United will be the first and only airline to offer direct flights between the Algarve and the USA.
“We are delighted to extend our seasonal service from Lisbon to Washington Dulles for the summer of 2024, allowing our customers in Portugal to book their next trip to the US even earlier”, says José Ferreira, Country Sales Manager Portugal and reported by Publituris.
“For the summer of 2024, United will operate its largest transatlantic summer schedule ever, offering even more travel options and the possibility of connecting through our hubs in the USA to other destinations in the Americas”, José Ferreira further added.
“This extension for the winter season of the United route from Washington is really important, with Portugal increasingly becoming an annual market, with various reasons for travel”, highlights Nuno Costa, Aero Commercial Director at ANA | VINCI Airports. “Airlines like United Airlines are taking advantage of this new dynamic to expand their operations. These additional frequencies bring greater connectivity to Lisbon Airport, adding more options for passengers on both sides of the Atlantic to travel between the United States and Europe”.
United's seasonal nonstop service from Lisbon to Washington Dulles will be operated primarily with Boeing 767-400 aircraft, with a total of 231 seats – 34 flat-bed seats with full aisle access in United Polaris business class, 24 seats in United Premium Plus and 173 economy seats, including 48 Economy Plus seats with extra legroom and more personal space. Some dates will be operated with Boeing 757-200 aircraft, with a total of 176 seats – 16 flatbed seats in United Polaris business class and 160 in economy, including 42 seats in Economy Plus.
These flights were all canceled the first week of April, pushed off until 2025, due to the loss of aircraft due to Boeing's issues. The story headline is also incorrect, saying thes flights started February 16, two months before the story was written. No United flights have come from the US to Faro from February 16-today, May 2. This is clear.
