School transport has been suspended today in the region, leaving around 600 students at home, according to the fire commander, Miguel Monteiro.

Senhora da Serra, in Bragança, also woke up to snow, as well as Serra da Padrela, in Alto Tâmega and Barroso.

The roads in the central Serra da Estrela massif have also been closed to traffic due to snowfall, a Civil Protection source told Lusa.


The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under a yellow warning until 09:00 on Saturday, due to the forecast of snowfall above 800 meters, with accumulation above 1,000 meters.

The warning is raised to orange between 6pm today and 9am on Saturday in the districts of Viseu, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Guarda and Castelo Branco, lasting in the latter two until 6pm.
