Researchers from Germany’s Essen University Hospital ran a meta-analysis of more than 200 studies, involving some 13,000 people, to unravel the health benefits of consensual touch.

The results, published in Nature, found physical health benefitted from touch by other humans, but also from weighted blankets and robots. Mental health got a pick-me-up, too, more so from human touch than inanimate objects.
