Celebrating its fourth year, the Women in Wine Expo returns, this time set against the picturesque backdrop of Portugal. Following the resounding success of its past editions in 2019, 2022, and 2023, WIWE continues its mission to foster a vibrant global community of women in the wine industry. More than just a conference, WIWE serves as a platform for women to deepen their expertise, engage in topical discussions, and explore future possibilities within a supportive and inclusive environment.

The 2024 conference runs over three days from May 8th to 10th, in Portugal's second-largest city and home of Port wine, Porto. This year the expo kicks off with an engaging meet & greet evening hosted at Taylor's Port in Vila Nova de Gaia. The following day, it promises an exciting itinerary including masterclasses on Portuguese wines (led by renowned winemaker Sandra Tavares da Silva), hybrid wines (by Elizabeth Higley, winemaker from North Carolina), and a visit to the Cork Museum followed by masterclasses about cork production (Magda Sa) and wellbeing in the wine industry (Caro Feely). Central to the conference is a focus on the sustainability initiative of the Porto Protocol, culminating on Friday with a walk-around tasting at WOW Gallery, Porto's dynamic wine culture district. Conference speakers this year include emerging leaders in the wine industry: Evy Gozali from Indonesia, Karene Vilela from Brazil, Kelly Pearson from Australia, and Joanna Pudo from Poland, among others.

Notably, this year marks a groundbreaking collaboration between the Women in Wine Expo and the Burgundy School of Business (BSB), launching the first-ever qualitative survey “Global Perspectives of Female Wine Consumers”. Led by eight MBA Wine & Spirits Business students, they will be invited to share with the audience the findings of their research.

The Porto edition also brings an exciting collaboration with Bijou Wine, a vibrant producer operating in the Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence regions. They are generously sponsoring five Portuguese participants, granting them the opportunity to attend the conference. For further information on the competition, please refer to the post here.

The Women in Wine Expo, conceived by journalist and founder Senay Ozdemir, offers a unique in-person gathering for women across the globe in the wine industry. “The Women in Wine Expo is the only global platform for women in wine, one of its kind and designed for networking and educational purposes by sharing best practices, and fostering enriching discussions in a supportive environment”, concludes Senay.
