In response to Lusa, an official source from the Ministry of Finance stated that those €33.2 million were allocated to more than 4,700 entities.

This value, allocated in 2023 with reference to 2022 income, reflects an increase of almost 9 percent compared to the amount that had been allocated in the previous year's IRS campaign – with the €30.5 million then donated being divided between €29.1 million in IRS and around €1.4 million through the VAT tax benefit.

The law allows taxpayers to choose a beneficiary entity for 0.5 percent of their IRS, with the resulting amount being donated by the State – as for individuals the measure does not affect the tax they have to pay for the refund.

Furthermore, it is possible to record the tax benefit obtained through the deduction of VAT on restaurant, hairdresser, or workshop expenses, in which case the taxpayer effectively waives part of his tax.

The choice of entities to which this portion of the tax can be attributed is made during the submission of the annual IRS declaration, and this year the list of these entities exceeds 5,000.

On 2 May, the Government approved a bill that doubles the IRS consignment limit, thus increasing it to 1 percent.
