Lisbon, with a share of 2%, falls, however, when comparing the period under analysis of 2024 with the same months of 2023, registering a drop of 0.3 percentage points (p.p.). Funchal is among the fastest-growing cities when analysing the increase in popularity, with a growth of 0.14 p.p. compared to the same period last year, according to an analysis by ForwardKeys.

The ranking of the most researched cities is led by London, with an increase of 1.9 p.p. Paris, in 2nd place, grows 0.5 pp compared to the months of July and August 2023, with Barcelona remaining in 3rd place, with the same record. The Top 10 also includes Istanbul, Rome, Athens, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan and Palma de Mallorca.

Olivier Ponti, Director of Information and Marketing at ForwardKeys, admits that generally speaking, “the outlook is positive for destinations around the world that aim to attract lucrative European tourism in the coming years. With the disruption to demand and bookings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic now behind us, the 2024 summer season looks likely to set a new benchmark for European travel, both within the region and beyond.”
