According to data provided to Lusa by the Ministry of Finance, this year (for the IMI for 2023) 946,759 tax collection notes with a value of less than 100 euros were issued and the payment deadline is today.

The 2,245,046 who received a tax amount between 100 and 500 euros and the 686,504 who have more than 500 euros in IMI to pay can choose between paying only the first instalment or the entire payment.

According to the law, IMI is paid in a single payment, during the month of May, when its value is less than 100 euros, and is divided into two instalments paid in May and November when it varies between 100 and 500 euros.

Exceeding 500 euros, it is divided into three instalments of the same amount to be paid in May, August and November. However, for several years now, owners have been able to, if they wish, pay the full tax with the May assessment.

The IMI is levied on the tax asset value (VPT) of properties, including a single rate of 0.8% in the case of rustic buildings (land) and a rate that varies between 0.3% and 0.45% on urban buildings (constructions and land for construction).
