The XXI Annual Conference of Imiscoe (International Migration Research Network) will take place between the 3rd and 5th of July at ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, organised by the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology.
According to the organisation, the meeting is “one of the most important in the field of studies on migration and integration in Europe” and will bring together “around a thousand participants, including experts, researchers and academics, policymakers and representatives of civil society organizations from all over the world".
The theme of this year’s edition is “Immigration as a social construction. A reflective turn” and will include themes such as integration, asylum policies, and the “social and economic implications of these phenomena in contemporary societies”.
“At a time when immigration becomes a central topic of public debate in Portugal, the conference emerges as a privileged space for discussing these issues”, consider the promoters, highlighting that the objective is also “to encourage critical thinking about the processes associated with the construction and categorisation of the 'migrant' being, as well as their descendants”.
The conference is a "privileged space..." ooh the moniker looms over the space suspended from hot air produced by academic social constructions and concomitant collective guilt Id love to be there, but the beuracracy formerly known as SEF has yet to renew my legal residency, over 2 years waiting. Any concrete suggestions?
