With a mother who encouraged beach outings and siblings who were already riding waves, Jaime naturally took to the sport. "I loved it, did it a few times in the summer, fell in love and started doing it all the time," he says with a smile.

The world of surfing offered Jaime not just a sport but a lifestyle. He found inspiration in John John Florence, a two-time world champion. "I love his surfing and I watch videos and videos of him surfing," Jaime admits. His favourite surfing spot remains Carcavelos, Cascais, a place of familial and personal significance.

Before discovering Brave Generation Academy (BGA), Jaime attended a traditional school in Carcavelos. He enjoyed school and the camaraderie with friends but found the conventional system challenging to balance with his surfing aspirations. A year spent in California further complicated his academics, until he found BGA through friends in Portugal. "When I came back, I found BGA through some friends who surf all the time and still have time for school, so I thought it would be good for me," he explains.

Brave Generation Academy’s flexible educational model proved to be a game-changer for Jaime. The academy allows students to manage their workload in a way that works for them, providing a balance between academics and personal pursuits. "It's given me a lot of freedom," Jaime says. "I've been managing my days and I'm still responsible with my schoolwork."

BGA’s hybrid system is perfect for Jaime, allowing him to balance his studies with his busy competition schedule. Their online learning platform lets Jaime continue his education even while travelling. He explains, "Since I wanted to be a professional surfer, I thought I'd switch to a system that lets you manage your time. This way, I can surf more, go to the gym, travel, and still keep up with my school responsibilities." When he’s not travelling, you can find Jaime at his Hub in Parede, studying with the support of his Learning Coaches. The freedom and flexibility BGA offers have made Jaime not only happier but also more focused and driven.

Jaime's surfing career is on a promising trajectory. He has achieved significant milestones, including being the Regional Champion of Greater Lisbon Under 18 and winning the Under 16 National Grom Search. "I've just been Regional Champion of Greater Lisbon Under 18, did good at Meo League, which is Portugal's open division league," he shares. His goals are ambitious: world junior and open titles in the WSL, ISA, and an Olympic medal.

Academically, Jaime plans to complete high school with BGA and pursue a university course in business while continuing to compete professionally. "My next steps at an academic level are completing high school with BGA. Then I want to be a professional surfer, compete, join the WSL world tour and then take a university course in business, which is my favorite area," he outlines.

Aside from BGA, Jaime credits his success to the unwavering support of his family and coach. "One person I would really like to thank would be my mother, who has opened all the doors for me and always supported me in everything," he says gratefully. His father, living in the USA, and his long-time surf coach, Manuel, also hold special places in his heart.

Jaime's story is a testament to how flexible education models like BGA can empower young athletes to chase their dreams without compromising on their education. As he rides the waves of both his passion and studies, Jaime stands as an inspiring example of what can be achieved with the right support and determination.
