The campaign is an initiative carried out in partnership with the Maritime Authority, Maritime Police, and the Association of Lifeguards of Albufeira (ANSA) which, this year, has the support of the Albufeira Public Health Unit, taking the opportunity to simultaneously raise awareness among visitors from beaches to the risk of sun exposure.

Albufeira has 30 kilometres of coastline, surrounded by cliffs. However, the natural process of erosion increases the danger of landslides and rock falls.

“Every summer, or even outside the bathing season, when the good weather permits, we often see people walking along the cliffs, in the shadow of the cliffs or posing for a selfie next to a beautiful rock formation, showing a lack of knowledge about the dangers to which they are subject”.

Aware of this reality, the Municipality of Albufeira has gradually invested in awareness campaigns with a view to safety on the beaches, through the distribution of bilingual leaflets (Portuguese and English) aimed at informing bathers about the dangers associated with the cliffs and the best way to prevent them.

Beachgoers are advised to follow the SMPC's advice: prefer guarded beaches; do not stay at the top or bottom of cliffs and do not park at the top of them; avoid risky access routes to the beach by crossing cliffs; respect the recommendations of lifeguards; stay away from places where there are loose stones and cracks; Do not use the area next to the cliff to shelter from the sun and wind.
