According to the Council of Ministers of July 16, the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) was authorised to incur expenditure for the resettlement assistance and humanitarian protection project, concluded with the IOM.
“After many months of uncertainty, we are very pleased to see that the resumption of resettlement activities is imminent”, says the head of Mission of IOM Portugal, Vasco Malta, in a statement.
"The Portuguese State reaffirms its commitment to international solidarity and protection of human rights, committing to receive and integrate 600 refugees who initially requested asylum in Egypt and Turkey", says the IOM.
"This program is part of an ongoing effort that in recent years has seen the successful resettlement of hundreds of refugees", in a "joint effort that aims to support individuals and families seeking safety and a new life in Portuguese territory", it can also read in the statement.
