Notoriously plodding on and going forth where no other has dared to go. A recent increase in funds, allowed APAA’s team to be over-generous with others in need. Asking for help, several animal shelters and charities had their begging bowls topped up. “We couldn’t say ‘no’ to some of the applications.” Jackie Billings, APAA’s Treasurer had decided along with the board to review the requests. “It was a ‘King Solomon’ moment.” Cut the baby in half. What? “So, instead of granting all their money, we gave some less. But gave!” Everyone is a winner.
ARA on the other hand, ‘others’ have hands full, with their continuing re-homing of abandoned animals. João Ferreira General Manager of the ‘Cabanita’ shelter has always decisions to make, where animals are best re-homed. “We have to really ensure it is their perfect final solution.” No doubt. Grateful for all the help they can get!
The sunny Algarve has seen an influx of Stork arrivals over the years. Many tourists park along the roadsides to get the infamous Stork Apartment Block shot. Whilst many humans are also flocking to our beautiful shores, they are of course all welcome. Given every hospitality and kindness a host country can offer. “Some of our new friends are looking out for pets.” Not storks? “We would ask, that if you are considering taking on a furry friend, that you do some background digging first,” Jenny explains. “Take the dog out, check its background. Don’t decide on a whim.” Make sure you are compatible.
Above the crowded Stork Blocks the deep thump of the metal flying birds the ‘Black Hawks’ took off for a manoeuvring session, followed by a single helicopter. No doubt reporting to HQ on their status. “The earth trembled and birds took off from every location.” a local remarked. “Coincidentally three storks took off as the three black hawks circled above.”
Don’t forget to visit APAA’s charity shops, waiting to serve you with goodies and clothing for the seasonal break. Alvor and Silves, are both hitting rocket sales. “Got to be the fact we have such a fine range of stock and regular turnover.” The shops are always popular with residents for residential or holiday make-overs and tourists for special gifts and trendy boutique clothing.
All APAA funds go to SNiP (Spaying and Neutering Programme). Keeping the size of cat-colonies down and helping abandoned animals recover and be re-homed. Also, helping other charities and shelters to survive and help the communities they serve. So, please help us to help them!
