"We received 25 municipal police when we had requested 200. And we have to have more Public Security Police (PSP) on the street. We need to see more PSP on the street", the mayor told journalists.

"I put this pressure on, which I had already put on the previous Government, so this is something that I had asked the previous Government for many times and continue to ask this Government, which is to have more police on the streets. Which is what is needed is for the Government to know that we are here, but we cannot resolve it. It is a function of the State and the Government and it is very important that Lisbon has more police", he highlighted.

Carlos Moedas recalled, for example, that there have been robberies on Avenida da Liberdade.

"I said that we are going to have a police station there where the Municipal Police and the PSP can be located. It is not a police station in the sense of a PSP police station, but it is a place in Praça da Alegria, and we can continue to help", he highlighted.

The mayor, however, said that "within the limits", Lisbon continues to be safe.

"It is important that Lisbon residents think that our city is safe, but there has been an increase [in crime] and this increase is clear, it is visible, therefore, it is not just a perception. The numbers that we know, that there was actually an increase of crime in the city of Lisbon and also an increase in the violence with which these acts were carried out", he maintained.
