“The Platform highlights that this enormous victory would not have been possible without the support of the population, workers and businesspeople, union leaders and delegates, many economic and social forces, the many mayors and parties that voted in favour of the proposed law in the Assembly of the Republic”, highlights, in a statement sent to the Lusa agency, the group that brings together several organisations from the districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda.

The group highlights that the replacement of roads at no cost to the user (SCUT) is the result of the “intense struggle waged, separately and jointly”, over more than 13 years by the organizations that make up the Platform and warned that it will continue to demand the implementation of a Mobility Plan and development measures for the interior of the country.

“The interior needs a Mobility Plan that values and promotes rail transport of passengers and goods and combines it with public road transport, putting an end to the shame of having the most expensive pass in the country, at 120 euros per month”, advocates the Platform.

In May, the Assembly of the Republic approved, in general, the bill to end, from 1st January, tolls on the A4 - Transmontana and Túnel do Marão, A13 and A13-1 - Pinhal Interior, A22 - Algarve, A23 - Beira Interior, A24 - Interior Norte, A25 - Beiras Litoral and Alta and A28 – Minho in the sections between Esposende and Antas and between Neiva and Darque.

The Platform for the Replacement of Scuts on the A23 and A25 integrates seven entities from the districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda – Business Association of Beira Baixa, Union of Unions of Castelo Branco, Commission of Users Against Tolls on the A23, Movement of Entrepreneurs for Subsistence for the Interior, Business Association of the Guarda Region, A25 Users Commission and Union of Unions of Guarda.
