The minister said that this reinforcement is part of the “Safe Summer 2024” program, which began on 15 June.

“More personnel will be added to those that are already assigned” to Porto and Lisbon and “foot patrolling policing actions will take place”, which “makes people feel safer”.

Margarida Blasco explained that the security forces would use graduates from the “last three or four courses”.

“There are 800 people to distribute throughout Portugal in the most critical areas”, she detailed.

Margarida Blasco guaranteed that the Government also continues to maintain contact with “the mayors and local authorities and associations”.

The minister also highlighted that “PSP will also be present” at airports and that “this is a function that will be very necessary with the increase in tourism that always happens at this time of year”.

Earlier in the week Lisbon Mayor, Carlos Moedas, once again asked for more police in the city, stating that there had been "a clear increase" in crime and that he had been putting pressure on the Government to resolve the situation.
