The project organiser, Movijovem, has stated that the youth guesthouse will have a total of 42 beds, spread across 12 rooms: seven multiples, four doubles, and one adapted double.

“From the moment the decision was made to reopen the hostel in Portalegre because it was the only district in the country that didn’t have a youth hostel run by MoviJovem, the process was relatively simple and quick, apart from all the complexity that an intervention of this size entails”, said Miguel Prestelo, president of Movijovem.

The unit will be completely renovated, “with all the comfort, innovation and technology required and demanded by young people and more”, he assured, and the space will also “cater” to students from the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (IPP), as the accommodation of higher education students was one of the factors that contributed to the reopening of the hostel.

“A rehabilitated hostel will be born, with the best services we can provide”, said Miguel Perestelo, as the refurbishment is part of “an ongoing effort to modernise and improve the network of Youth Hostels”.

In a statement dated October 19, 2023, the office of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, João Pulo Correia, said at the time that the work would allow MoviJovem to restore “safety, comfort and health conditions” to the infrastructure, as well as providing it with more facilities.
