According to the National Statistics Institute (INE): "The tourist accommodation sector recorded 3.0 million guests and 7.8 million overnight stays in June 2024, corresponding to variations of +6.7% and +4.8%, respectively", compared to increases of 9.5% and 7.6% in May 2024, in the same order.
Overnight stays by residents increased by 3.2%, "corresponding to 2.2 million, while those by non-residents grew by 5.5%, totalling 5.6 million".
According to the INE, in external markets, "the British market remained the main source market (20.8% share), having registered a growth of 5.5% in June, followed by the United States (10.6% share), which grew by 13.7%, and Germany (10.6% share), which showed a slight decrease (-0.4%)".
According to the data released by the entity, "all regions registered an increase in overnight stays, with the greatest increase in the Setúbal Peninsula (+9.1%) and the Azores (+7.2%), and more modest increases in Madeira (+3.3%) and the Algarve (+3.7%)".
Considering the second quarter of 2024, "overnight stays increased by 2.8% (+7.4% in the first quarter), due to non-residents (+4.2%; +8.7% in the first quarter), with overnight stays by residents decreasing by 0.8% (+4.7% in the 1st quarter)", said the INE, and that "in the first half of the year, overnight stays grew by 4.5%", increasing by 1.4% for residents and rising by 5.8% for non-residents".
Yet, walk the streets at night, most restaurants are empty.
Keep opening hotels that are all inclusive so you can get drunk cheaper and don't have to go out for meals.
