"Last year, we secured a direct connection with SATA to Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, and, in fact, it is with great pleasure that, this past weekend, we ended up closing the possibility of having this direct route from Faro to Funchal, with TAP, which I am also very pleased about", revealed André Gomes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA)", cites Sul Informação.

Currently, TAP only has three weekly flights from Faro to Lisbon, which then allow connections to other destinations, but the Algarve wants more from the Portuguese airline.

“The work we have been trying to develop with TAP is aimed at demanding, in a responsible manner, a greater presence of TAP at Faro Airport. This announcement, I believe, is a good sign in that sense”, highlighted the president of RTA, assuming that they have also “demanded” the importance of having a TAP flight connecting Faro to Porto, as Ryanair already does.

“As was made clear here today, even in more than one panel at this conference, air connectivity is very important for working with any tourist destination, let alone an excellent tourist destination like the Algarve, internationally recognised as it is today”, said the president, assuming that this has been a strong commitment since the beginning of his term and that many of the objectives have been achieved.
