According to a press release from the Civil Protection of Almada, the rescue operation was launched after the alert was given by several residents who spotted the animal.

“The animal, which had been spotted by several residents in recent days, was causing concern in the community due to its exotic nature and the potential risk of accidents”, the note reads.

According to the Almada City Council, the capture was carried out “in a calm manner, with the kangaroo being sedated and transported to a safe facility, where it will receive the necessary care”.

The Almada Animal Ombudsman is now investigating how the animal arrived in the region.
