The incident did not cause any injuries and air traffic is operating normally.

The alert to Civil Protection was sent at 12:01 pm and 124 personnel, supported by 54 vehicles, were mobilised to the site, according to information obtained by Notícias ao Minuto from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.

As the landing occurred "without serious consequences", only 85 personnel and 38 vehicles of the total arrived at the site, and the demobilisation of the remaining resources in transit was ordered.

According to TVI, it was a Ryanair flight that had departed from London bound for Faro. The Irish airline's Boeing 737 is believed to have suffered problems with its landing gear, triggering a pre-emergency alert at Faro airport.

The flight was connecting Luton airport with the Algarve capital and "declared an emergency due to technical problems", said ANA - Aeroportos, the company that manages Portuguese airports, when asked about the incident by the Lusa news agency.

"The Gago Coutinho-Faro Airport Emergency Plan was activated, which is appropriate for this type of situation", said ANA, clarifying that the plane "landed safely at 12:27 p.m."
