The Panattoni project involves the construction of a multi-tenant warehouse with a gross leasable area of 34,344 square metres and will have 48 loading and unloading docks, 35 metres of manoeuvring dock, a free height of 10.6 metres and an electrical power of 800 kW throughout the park.

In statements to Lusa, Pedro Almeida, managing partner of Fort Projects, the company responsible for developing the project, said that the new infrastructure will have a “very significant impact” on the Santarém region, particularly in the creation of new jobs.

“We are talking about dozens of jobs and it will also benefit smaller companies located in this region. In my opinion, this project could be a reference for new constructions in the region”, he argued.

According to the official, the locations where these logistics platforms are normally built “were exhausted” and a search for new locations began, with Santarém emerging as a “strategic” location due to its accessibility.

“These platforms must be close to the motorways, otherwise they will have a very significant impact on the population. Santarém, from this point of view, is excellent because it has direct access to the motorway”, he stated.

On Panattoni's official website, it is stated that the municipality of Santarém was chosen because it is “strategically located” next to the A1 and because of its proximity to Azambuja, “where the largest logistics platforms in the country are located”.

Also speaking to Lusa, the vice-president of the Santarém Municipal Council, João Leite, said that the municipality “is increasingly being sought after by companies due to its geographical location” and is “highly sought after due to its industrial component”.

Regarding this specific project, the mayor stressed that it would create wealth and help “settle people in the region” through new jobs.

According to the company, the project “has already begun with the beginning of the earthmoving phase and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025”.

This is the third project of the Californian company in Portugal, which currently has two projects under development, in Valongo (Porto district) and in Santa Iria de Azoia (Lisbon district).

Panattoni is a private real estate development company founded in 1986 in California, in the United States of America, and has been operating in Europe since 2005.
