The Secretary of Agriculture has shared that the 18 forest nurseries in the Azores, which span 264 thousand square meters, are "fundamental for the reorganisation of the Azorean Forest" and have the capacity to generate around five million plants. The Azorean nurseries provide in addition to exotic forest species like cryptomeria, hardwoods and other resinous species like chamaeciparis, pines, sequoias, and several types of cedars.

According to a note from the Azorean government, regional secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development António Ventura emphasises that "investment in improving forest nurseries has been constant, an example of which is this Forest Nursery and Centre for the Promotion of Native Species, a true centre of attraction for environmental education on Terceira Island among young people."

During his visit to the Forest Nursery and Centre for the Promotion of Native Species in Fontinhas, Terceira Island, António Ventura stated that cryptomeria is a forest species whose wood is in high demand on the market, mostly for export. The Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) states that the cryptomeria of the Azores is the species that is most commonly produced in forest nurseries because it is "the wood-producing forest species that presents the best vegetative growth, as it is well adapted to the region."

According to him, in 2023, "around 330 thousand plants of this species were distributed in the region, with around 760 thousand still remaining in the nursery for growth". Moreover, about 15 thousand decorative plants intended for public areas were dispersed and put to use, whilst a sizable portion is still available for growth.
