"It is high time for the Regional Government to get to work and, in this case, to work with the various partners [...] so that we can have an integrated plan, a solution that should have been in place for a long time", stated Paulo Cafôfo, after a meeting with the director of Madeira's airports, which took place at Porto Santo Airport.

The leader of the Madeiran socialists considered that the implementation of this plan was essential, considering that Madeira Airport is often restricted due to strong winds.

"And this restriction ends up having a huge impact on our tourism", he stressed, adding that Madeirans who need to travel outside the region, whether for personal or professional reasons, are also affected.

Paulo Cafôfo stressed that "it would be important" for Porto Santo Airport to be an alternative in these cases - planes could divert to that infrastructure and passengers would then be transported to Madeira Island by sea.

The contingency plan "is already provided for in the Economic and Social Development Plan, which was approved in 2020", but, to date, "absolutely nothing" has been done, he lamented.

"The PS wants the Regional Government [PSD] to move forward and not hold back the development of the region", reinforced the socialist.

The president of PS/Madeira, the largest opposition party in the regional parliament (it occupies 11 of the 47 seats in the hemicycle), indicated, on the other hand, that the new wind measurement radars will begin to be installed at the airport on Madeira Island from September 9th.
