The measures will be voluntary for schools to adhere to, but their impact will be assessed over the next academic year and the government is not closing the door on banning the use of smartphones in schools, depending on the results.

Fernando Alexandre explained that the recommendations of the ministry include banning the entry or use of mobile phones in school premises in the 1st and 2nd cycles of primary education.

In the case of the 3rd cycle, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation recommends the implementation of measures that restrict and discourage the use of mobile phones, and in secondary education, the students themselves should be involved in defining the rules.
