On Saturday, the National Republican Guard (GNR) located a group of 13 people, aged between 11 and 59, "who were disoriented in a difficult-to-access area" of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, in the municipality of Terras de Bouro.

In a statement, the GNR explained that, following a communication from the Terras de Bouro Volunteer Firefighters informing that 13 people were disoriented on the Fenda da Calcedónia trail, in the Peneda-Gerês National Park, the guards "carried out steps that allowed them to locate and contact the victims, in order to assess their health, physical and psychological condition, and found that there was no need to provide special care".

Following the action, the military, through the Peneda-Gerês National Park Mountain Search and Rescue Post (PTBRM-PNPG), "helped the group to make the return trail to their destination".

The security force explains that the rescue was carried out "using rope maneuvering techniques, a result that contributes to the importance of the commitment of mountain search and rescue teams in this type of mission since they are teams equipped with the physical and technical capacity to provide assistance and rescue" for this type of victim.

The GNR also appeals to all outdoor sports enthusiasts and visitors to the PNPG to take special "precautions in their activities, namely, to plan their activity in order to ensure that the entire route is completed safely and, preferably, during the day, in order to avoid situations of loss of orientation, accidents or other situations".
